Hara Sushi

Posted on

If you are fond of Japanese Food, this sushi bar is a great option – it’s good and cheap. ‘Cause once something becomes famous, the price goes up high and that’s exactly what happend with our sushis ans sashimis. But Hara Sushi has this all-you-can-eat from monday to friday, so you have the whole week to enjoy it.

Of course, here in Brazil we have some particularities in the Japanese Food. You’ll get to know the amazing Hot Filadelfia. I believe it’s not a commom makimono around the world, you tell me. It’s simple the modern brazilian version of the Philadelphia. They make it hot and fried. Everybody over here loves it. You should try.

Where to find Hara Sushi. They have two adresses (and they have delivery!):

– Praia da Botafogo, 416 – loja C, Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro – RJ

– New York City Center – Av. das Américas, 5000 / 1º piso / lojas 109-110

Hot dog at the end of the night

Posted on

If there’s anything better in cost / benefit than the Voluntários’ hot dog, you tell me! Cause if you’re around Botafogo and is almost 05 in the morning, you have just left that great party and you’re starving: Durango’s dog is the perfect match for you.

Really, really cheap, it costs around R$2,00 the hole thing: sausage, corn, peas, grated cheese… And so damn good!

The store is located at Rua Voluntários da Pátria, 10, the busiest point of Botafogo – and close to all the bars, the subway and the cinema.  3242-8961 / 7859-8939

Bauernfest – Petrópolis

Posted on
In winter, the good thing is go up to the mountains and spend a weekend in Petropolis. It is a small and charming city very close to Rio.

For those who enjoy a cold weather, the city offers chalets and restaurants of the highest quality. In addition, the city has a rich historical past. The tour is varied: the Imperial Museum, which was the summer residence of Dom Pedro II in the past, Ipiranga’s House, a 18th century house with a beautiful garden and a great restaurant – Bordeaux, the house of Santos Dumont and the Quitandinha Palace, an imposing building built in the fifties with the intention of being a hotel and a casino, among many others. It is a lovely city!

And now in June Petropolis gains one more attraction, Bauernfest – the German settler party – which started yesterday (06/22), and is in its 22nd edition this year. The event features performances of folk dances, typical bands, choirs, orchestras, film festival, exhibitions, among other attractions. And what’s best is the typical German food. Apfelstrudel (apple pie), Sauerkraut, Kartoffelsalat (potato salad), everything is delicious – and fattening!
For those who enjoy beer, this edition will be the inauguration of the Espaço Cervejaria Bohemia, celebrating the return of manufacturing to the city.

Pão de queijo and mate

Posted on

Not typical from Rio, but from Brazil in general, pão de queijo is a tiny bread made of cheese that looks more like a biscuit. You can find it in many cafes around Rio. It is cheap and reeeeeally tasty. It goes really well with this sort of tea, called mate, or with a cup of coffee or chocolate.

These two fast food chains, Mega Matte and Rei do Mate, are famous on the business. Everybody stops there for a quick coffee break. Rei do Mate offers a big cup of pão de queijo, which comes with twelve units, it costs around R$5,00. In Mega Matte you can find many flavours of mate, it’s difficult to choose one best.

Where will you find Rei do Mate:

Quick stop for a Israeli snack

Posted on

Every day, when I’m coming home, I get off the bus and feel a delicious smell coming from the Israeli cafeteria in front of it, Pitta’s. I decided, then, to give it  a try today and I didn’t regret at all.
I wasn’t sure about what I should take but the waitress came to me very kindly and asked me if I’d like to try the Falafel – made of bean cake fried chickpeas, but very crisp – and that’s how I decided on the Falafel sandwich. You, customer, decide how to make your own sandwich, as in Subway, there are many a variety of salad and pastes – eggplant, chickpeas and sesames.
The size was more than OK, I was very satisfied after that. And the price as well, R$8,00.

If you want soemthing quicker, there is the kebab, the esfiha and the burek. You should also try the Syrian sweets made of varied nuts (R$ 3.00 each).

Lost and starving in Copacabana

Posted on

You’re in Copacabana and want to find something good to eat?

So, let’s start with Cervantes. This is definitely a must! They’re famous for its sandwiches which are very, very  stuffed, and there are so many options that it is a difficult issue to choose between all of them. It is a great option for you who is coming back from a night out, ’cause it’s open all night long. Tue-Sun, 12pm-4am. http://www.restaurantecervantes.com.br/

Rua Barata Ribeiro, 7 ljB  – Copacabana

Next stop, Pavão Azul. It’s a informal bar, in a very brasilian style. Their tidbits made them very famous and it’s a good deal to get there early to get a table and better service. You should try the pataniscas de bacalhau, made of codfish, also, the pastéis de camarão (shrimp). And don’t forget the beer, stupidly cold, as we usually say here. Tue-Sun 16pm-12am.

Rua Barata Ribeiro, 348 ljB – Copacabana

The last, but not least, for today is Toca do Siri. If your loonking for typical brasilian food it is a good place to go. Delicious dishes, good service and, A-HA, caipirinhas! Casquinha de siri (crab), caldo de sururu (mussels), and of course, the acarajé, that’s the good request.
