Havaianas

Posted on

Havaianas is the ultimate footwear to parade in carioca beaches . These rubber sandals almost stick in your feet, ’cause you don’t want to wear anything else anymore. It’s cheap, stylish and comfortable.

It is really easy to find a pair of them, they are sold all over the city: in supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies and fashion stores. Prices differ a lot depending on the model and also on the place where you buy them – the official stores are always the most expensive.

Here you go a list of places I think stand out as selling points with wider selections and the best prices:

Kikarnes
R. Visconde de Pirajá 224 – Ipanema 2523-3625. A small supermarket with a big selection of Havaianas.

MG Bazar
R. Figueiredo de Magalhães 414 – Copacabana 2548-1664. Probably the most well stocked Havaiana store in Rio de Janeiro.

There are other two locations that I cant list right now but as soon as I get the adress, you’ll have them all. One of them is at Leblon, close to Shopping Leblon, the other is at Ipanema, at Farme de Amoedo St.

Hot dog at the end of the night

Posted on

If there’s anything better in cost / benefit than the Voluntários’ hot dog, you tell me! Cause if you’re around Botafogo and is almost 05 in the morning, you have just left that great party and you’re starving: Durango’s dog is the perfect match for you.

Really, really cheap, it costs around R$2,00 the hole thing: sausage, corn, peas, grated cheese… And so damn good!

The store is located at Rua Voluntários da Pátria, 10, the busiest point of Botafogo – and close to all the bars, the subway and the cinema.  3242-8961 / 7859-8939

Erasmo Carlos

Posted on

Erasmo Carlos, great carioca singer and composer, was born – musically speaking – together with other great names of our music: Jorge Ben, Wilson Simonal, Tim Maia and Roberto Carlos.  With all those guys, he took part in several important moments of the Brazilian music.  Big fans of rock’n’roll, the Beatles and Elvis Presley, they brought the electric guitar for the billboards over here. Tough, not only the Jovem Guarda, but also Bossa Nova and MPB have some of his compositions.

With fifty-year career and many records sold, Erasmus is still on the road, and next Saturday, July 2, at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro, Erasmus presents the show Rock’n’Roll, namesake of his latest CD. The show will feature the participation of Marisa Monte and Roberto Carlos – its main partner, with which he composed over 500 songs and has established the most successful in the history of Brazilian popular music. The proceeds will go to the Children’s Hope project.

Bauernfest – Petrópolis

Posted on
In winter, the good thing is go up to the mountains and spend a weekend in Petropolis. It is a small and charming city very close to Rio.

For those who enjoy a cold weather, the city offers chalets and restaurants of the highest quality. In addition, the city has a rich historical past. The tour is varied: the Imperial Museum, which was the summer residence of Dom Pedro II in the past, Ipiranga’s House, a 18th century house with a beautiful garden and a great restaurant – Bordeaux, the house of Santos Dumont and the Quitandinha Palace, an imposing building built in the fifties with the intention of being a hotel and a casino, among many others. It is a lovely city!

And now in June Petropolis gains one more attraction, Bauernfest – the German settler party – which started yesterday (06/22), and is in its 22nd edition this year. The event features performances of folk dances, typical bands, choirs, orchestras, film festival, exhibitions, among other attractions. And what’s best is the typical German food. Apfelstrudel (apple pie), Sauerkraut, Kartoffelsalat (potato salad), everything is delicious – and fattening!
For those who enjoy beer, this edition will be the inauguration of the Espaço Cervejaria Bohemia, celebrating the return of manufacturing to the city.

Lounge C

Lounge C is artistic and sensorial. The event is an experiment of the meeting of classical music with electronics and video art, it’s an optical-sound environment, nothing like what you’ve seen before. It is quite an experience.
A music concert, kinesthetic, and both sublime and confusing. Video-scenography dramatize the feeling of pulsating music, creating unusual atmosphere and causing a new relationship with the viewer’s space.

This edition will be on Assyrio – Theatro Municipal. The last ones were in Parque Lage and 00 (that I’ve already mentioned in the blog).
The setting design is from the Coletivo Moleculagem and the designer Jair de Souza. And the music: Felipe Prazeres, Berna Ceppas e Negalê Jones / Tony Viegas that command, respectively, the classic, crossover and electronic styles.

Cinema Jóia this Tuesday

This Tuesday at Cinema Jóia, there will be the last screening of the documentary Estrada Real da Cachaça (Royal Road of Cachaça), it will be at 21pm.
Directed by Peter Uranus, the film seeks a reunion with the national reality through the most famous Brazilian drink, cachaça. It is a historical investigation, anthropological, socio-economic and poetic looking over the so-called Estrada Real (Royal Road). Estrada Real da Cachaça proposes the revival of an ancient route in order to map the presence of this liquor in Brazilian culture. The cachaça is produced throughout the Brazilian territory, but the state of Minas Gerais is best known for its quality. The reason is related to the gold rush in the eighteenth century, which meant that settlers were Portuguese and Brazilians into the country accompanied by the drink.
I believe, tought it is in Portuguese, it’s worth watching this documentary because of its beauty in content and photography.

Av.

If you are into Black Music, thre’s this night club in Gávea with a cool environment, beautiful people and a great bar. Its price is  not that great deal, but it’s ok, you’ll spend around R$70.

Friday is Black Music all night long, though on Saturdays the night is more like a mix of sounds. The evening starts at 20.30, with that atmosphere of happy hour in the middle weekend at a rate of Lounge. The restaurant is open and it’s really enjoyable to take your partner or go with your friends before the dancing time. From midnight on, pickups in the unmistakable sound of crackers vinyl, filled with sounds that pass for new releases and classic remixes of the black, indie rock, pop, club house, electro and its branches, ending in what is most innovative electronic music.
